Short Story Awards 2024
On June 5th at noon, the Department of Languages & Cultures is organizing the 16th edition of the Short Stories awards ceremony.
All French-speaking pre-master's students have put their creativity to work, each writing a short story in English. The best entries will be awarded on Wednesday at a ceremony on the ground floor of the Learning Center.
This year’s theme, ‘Fantastika’, is defined in the journal the luminary as "A term appropriated from a range of Slavonic languages by John Clute. It embraces the genres of Fantasy, Science Fiction, and Horror, but can also include Alternate History, Gothic, Steampunk, Young Adult Dystopic Fiction, or any other radically imaginative narrative space."
On the occasion of the competition's 10th anniversary, Michael Kouklakis, Director of the Department of Languages & Cultures, published an article on the Pedagolab@ESSEC blog. In it, he elaborated on the importance of storytelling and writing skills for business school students. Last year, he published a second article, analyzing the impact of artificial intelligence on creative writing, and specifically on the Short Story Competition.
The best short stories are then published in a collection that you can borrow from the Learning Center. You can find previous editions of student short stories in the News and Culture section.
